Informed Delivery;
A Way In for Hackers?
During the past year, In-plant Graphics has reported on the potential benefits of the free Informed Delivery program from the United States Postal Service, which emails customers images of the letter-sized mail they will be receiving that day. According to a recent blog on Printing Impressions, "the program includes around 13 million subscribers." The program has been steadily growing in popularity, but Cybersecurity experts warn it might provide an in for identity theft.
Stop Useless Parasites
On Your Network
The average organization can't identify almost half of the applications running on its network. Even if these mystery apps aren't actively malicious, they can put additional strain on network bandwidth and open security holes. Traditional app control is failing to do its job. Most modern firewalls are unable to see almost half of all network traffic, leaving parasitic apps to run unseen and unchecked. Expel unwanted apps with recommendations from this free whitepaper from Sophos.
Why Online Ads
Haven't Built Brands
Online advertising seems to be incapable of building major consumer-facing brands. We've had 20 years of phenomenal growth of online advertising and yet I have trouble coming up with one example of a major consumer-facing physical brand that was built by online advertising. I can think of no examples of major brands of beer, soda, cars, toothpaste, paper towels, candy bars, soap, fast food, peanut butter — you get the picture — that were built by online advertising.
Gift of Water Box
Provides Clean Water
If there's one thing rarer than great design, it is great design in aid of a good cause. Advertising agency LRXD's "Gift of Water" New Year's Box is an example. "... We've made a donation in your name to help provide clean drinking water across the globe. With this donation, 5,000 people receive clean water to drink for an entire year. From all of us at LRXD, thanks for helping us make life better."
